Whale Wise

Be Whale Wise

Our responsible guidelines

-Slow down: reduce our speed to less than 7 knots when within 300 meters/yards of the nearest whale to reduce our engine’s noise. Idle speed only within 100 meters/yards of nearest whale.

-No approach within 100 meters/yards , let the whales then set the distance they are comfortable with approaching us.

-Look in all directions before planning our approach or departure from viewing whales.

-We will always approach and depart from the side, moving parallel to the whales direction of travel. If the whales are approaching us, we will cautiously move out of the way and avoid abrupt course changes.

-Place in neutral and allow whales to pass.

-Pay attention and move away, slowly and cautiously, at the first sign of disturbance or agitation.

-Stay on the offshore side of whales when they are travelling close to shore.

-Limit our viewing time to 30 minutes or less within 100 yards/meters of whales. This will reduce the cumulative impact of all vessels and give consideration to other viewers.
