FAQS

Frequently Asked Questions

Got questions? We’ve got answers.

  • What are your 2023 Prices ?

Our prices can be found under any book now button, with aged based pricing.

Unfortunately they have had to increase significantly with high gas prices, and parts doubling in cost this year, if they decrease, prices will also, as it's determined in a formula.

Our vessels are comitted to going as far as needed to see whales, while this makes us much more successful then other tours, it's also very costly with gas prices, but worth the extra efforts.

  • What is the best time of the day to see whales?

Evening are the best time due to the ocean being calmer and everything easier to find , Early morning are next best as it's also often calm.

Mid day in peak summer season, Mid July to late August is often Hot and Wndy, this can make for fun trips, but has a higher possibility of cancelation due to wind.

Our recommendation is Evenings, but if that doesn't suit your schedule, mornings or afternoon still often work just fine.

We would especially recommend evenings for families with small children and seniors !

  • Are we Guaranteed to see whales?

Since opening in 1999 , we have Guaranteed whales or a full refund is offered.

We work harder then any other tour ever has in our area, covering 100 plus miles of ocean in our morning cruises, to determine where whales will be best watched each day.

Weather can always be a limiting factor, even though whales may be in the area, some wind directions, make them harder to find.

There will inevitably be excursions that will not see whales, but you will have gotten effort like no other whale tour would consider on such days.

If conditions do not allow whales to be found, after a long search, we will then shift to providing a fantastic coastal experience, with amazing National park coastline, seals, seabirds, sea caves, rock formations, secluded beaches, etc.

These trips are mostly our longest and most costly, with going as far as possible on difficult trips, sometimes worth the extra effort, but not always, so refund options will be sent via email, the following day or so.

  • How do we book an excursion ?

Click any of our Book Now links , and you will find an availability calender and pricing for age categories.

**Please pay close attention to the calender dates, the week starts on Monday**

Payments are processed by PAYPAL BUSINESS , you don't need to have a PAYPAL account, they just process the credit cards for us.

After you fill out your contact information , step 3 will be to accept terms and conditions, you then click Pay with PAYPAL, the next screen will then have Credit Card options available, unless you have a PAYPAL account linked to your device, then it usually goes directly to PAYPAL.

  • I've booked the wrong date by accident, how can i change this?

Our booking Calender starts each week on Monday and is a dated calender, some have mistakenly assumed it starts on Sunday, just send a quick e-mail and we can shift it over to the proper date :)

  • I'm having trouble booking? What can I do?

Typically what we have seen is if you are in a poor service area for Wifi or Cell service,  the payment part is hard to process, even though things like emails might send, it's best to have good service when trying to book.

  • Are these excursions suitable for small children?

Yes, there is no issue bringing younger children on board, we seat families with small children in the most suitable seats.

Infants are best in forward carriers (attached to Mom or Dad) and typically sleep during most of the trip after the vessel starts moving.

Children 2 and under are free and do not need to be registered as passengers when you book on our online bookings.

2 and 3 year olds are the most awkward sizes for our tours,  we have them seated securely between mom and Dad.

  • Are Zodiac excursions safe?

Yes very safe , Zodiacs move fast but are very stable and extremely seaworthy. Our vessels are responsibly driven with your comfort in mind. There will be no quick turns or unnecessary roughness on this excursion. These adventures are designed for top quality sightseeing and not a thrill park ride, and are suitable for all ages. Seniors are given priority seating towards the stern, where there is no bouncing at all.

  • How far in advance should we book the tour?

Although this is hard to judge, reservations should be made at least 7 days in advance or earlier. In the off-season (June and September), you should be ok to reserve 1-3 days before. However, the season could be busier than expected and it is difficult to predict how long in advance you should book. Reservations are definitely recommended as soon as you know when you wish to come.

  • Do passengers often feel seasick?

Zodiacs are the least likely vessel to get sea sick on, the tubes prevent side to side motion that typically causes passengers to get sick on other vessel types. If you are extremely prone to car or air sickness, it is recommended to take non-drowsy gravol 30 minutes prior to departure.

  • Do you contact us if the trips are cancelled due to weather?

Yes!  When taking a reservation, we ask for your email and a phone number where you can be reached in case we need to cancel. We need to follow Transport Canada's strict wind regulations and in some instances, we may have no choice but to cancel as late as at time of departure without notice. We do our best to contact in advance when possible!

  • What type of whales are we likely to encounter?

We are blessed to live in an area that encounters many species. Whales are migratory and travel north to feed in our area each season. During our 5-month season we encounter 7-13 species. It depends on the year and food pattern, but we have encountered Pilot Whales, Finback whales, Minke whales, Humpback whales, Beluga whales, Blue whales, Right whales, Sei whales, Killer whales, Sperm whales, Atlantic white-sided dolphins, common dolphins and Harbor porpoise. Each have their time and reason to be in our area, some years shorter or longer stays depending on the food source.

  • Can I bring a camera on a Zodiac?

Yes! Please bring your camera and/or video camera to capture the experience. We also recommend that you bring a plastic bag or other waterproof case to keep your camera safe and dry during travel to the whales. The boat will come to a complete stop for photo opportunities.

  • Do tours run in all types of weather?

Weather is certainly the biggest issue for excursions, we get stretches of every day nice and every day rough in the run of a long season, we must judge the conditions closely every day.

We will never take any chances with customers and only operate on days that are safe to do so, and we do our best to provide advance notice when we must cancel, but that is not always possible, as weather is often much different then what is forecasted.

We provide complimentary sheltered waters excursions on days we are unable to whale watch, so that customers can at least get out on the water if they would like when we have to cancel our days and they are in the area anyway.

  • How early should I come down to the office if I've already booked online?

Please arrive at our office at least 30 minutes prior to departure. It will take some time to prepare for departure.

  • How long are the tours?

Our tours generally run 2-3 hours in total. This can change depending on the distance of the whales on that day and how fast they are traveling. Hence, our vessels have long range capabilities. We do recommend you come prepared for a potentially longer trip, by bringing water and a light snack.

  • How should I dress? What should I bring?

Dressing in layers is recommended. In warmer summer days, just a windbreaker works fine. For colder days we provide thermal Flotation Jackets and pants for everyone.

Bring sunglasses, hat, sunscreen and your camera. No special footwear is needed, although shoes with a good grip is recommended.

  • Can we bring our pet onboard ?

we have made a few excpetions, but for the most part its not a great idea, as they will have no seat, and the floor makes for a bumpy ride.

We will keep an eye on your dog for you at the office while you are out on excursion for most trips, except the last departure as office staff then goes home for the day.

  • How is best to contact you with any questions ?

E-mail is the best option, we will get to them pretty quickly.

We have went away from phone calls as it takes up much of the office time, we can provide a better service to our booked in customers with more free time at the office, so please email and we will get back to you ASAP.
